FIFA released a statement on Thursday to clear up the Jersey Controversy. It all started with the claims that the world cup referee Mark Geiger asked for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Jersey during the match between Portugal and Morocco on Wednesday.

FIFA strongly denied the claims made against American referee Mark Geiger and the governing body has cleared Geiger of any misconduct. In Wednesday’s match Cristiano Ronaldo scored his winning goal against Morocco in a 1-0 win for Portugal.

Morocco winger Noureddine Amrabat made an accusation stating that American referee Mark Geiger asked for Ronaldo’s shirt at halftime and claims he found out about it from Portuguese defender Pepe when he spoke to the Dutch TV network NOS after the match.

FIFA has released the following statement with regards to referee Geiger professional conduct during the match. In the statement below FIFA’s governing body clarifies that:

It is with regret and disappointment that, following yesterday's Group B game between Portugal and Morocco, FIFA has learnt reports in the media concerning the referee Mark Geiger. It has been claimed that Mr. Geiger asked for the shirt of the captain of Portugal (Ronaldo) during the half-time interval. Mr. Geiger strongly refutes these claims and categorically states that such a request was not made.

FIFA unequivocally condemns the allegations supposedly made by a member of the Moroccan team. FIFA referees are under clear instructions with regards to their behavior and relationship with the teams at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and it can be confirmed that Geiger has acted in an exemplary and professional manner as an appointed match official.

Well at the end the controversy has cleared up and Morocco is the first team to be eliminated from World cup 2018.
